Attention: Unfortunately, this online casino is no longer available. Never fear: there are countless other reputable operators ready and waiting! Check out our list of online casinos for more options.

This brand has been around for 15 years. Matchbook is one of the first ever online sports betting exchange sites. As such, the site offers some of the lowest commissions available for online sports betting.

The sports betting exchange, part owned by WSEX, got off to a great start as it opened in the middle of an online betting explosion. However, in 2011 WSEX sold their stake in the company to a UK investor. Today, Matchbook is a completely standalone company. It is now established as one of the oldest and most trusted exchanges in Europe.

First and foremost, this site is sports betting exchange where punters can get the best prices available. However, it also has other products on offer, such as an online casino and a live casino, as well as ‘Colossus Jackpots’. In our Matchbook review, we will be checking out all areas of the site, from its products, to its customer service, security, overall useability and more, so that you can be sure that not only are you getting the best prices, but you’re getting the best and most secure experience on the market.

Overview of Our Experiences

Visually, we found it to be a classic looking site, that wasn’t overly stuffed and overly fussy compared to some of the other betting sites we have reviewed. It looks smart and is definitely appealing to people who want a straightforward betting experience. Despite the fact that it has been around for quite a while, the technology and features are very good and compare with the more modern of sites. It looks as though it considers itself to be a serious site with no need for fancy graphics and gimmicks.

As such, we found the site to be very simple to navigate and use, with a decent amount of sports and markets on offer. Although there aren’t as many niche sports as some other betting sites offer. It’s main selling point, as a betting exchange, is its prices. When going to the casino area of the site, we were pleasantly surprised by the number of top games available and the user friendly layout. There were also a few live dealer games, which were decent. We found the banking to be varied, with lots of currencies, although the cashier could be a little slow. The site also offered a decent Customer Service, although not 24 hours. Overall, as a punter, we were pretty impressed with the site – especially with the odds.

This is a site that simply trades on giving a good service and the best odds. It doesn’t need bells and whistles as this works well enough.

Matchbook: Scam or Not?

As stated, this is a betting exchange that has been around since 2005 and has built up a steady and substantial customer base, which would not be the case for a scam site. Matchbook is also licensed and regulated by the AGCC (Alderney Gambling Control Commission) as well as having a license to operate in the UK with the UK Gambling Commission. As such, this ensures that if you are based in a regulated country, the site is fully compliant and you are completely safe from any scams.

Furthermore, if you look in the online casino area of the site, you will notice that it provides games from such companies as NetEnt and Evolution Gaming, to name a few. These game providers only ever allow above-board sites to use their software, so this is further evidence that it is a safe and dependable site.

Also, it has partners such as Goodwood, Sandown Park and Kempton Park – some of the biggest names in horse racing. Having such prestigious partners linked to your site is a clear sign of trustworthiness and as such you can rest assured that this isn’t a Matchbook scam site.

Summary of the Offers from Matchbook

Matchbook is a betting exchange that offers elite prices – that will eclipse most of the very best bookmakers out there. The site offers an exceptionally low commission rate so there is less of a bookmaker margin. As well as this selling point, there are great bonuses and promotions, hundreds of casino games – with a live casino as well. It’s a site for those who like getting the most out of their money.

One of the major selling points of the site is its low commission rate – just one percent commission on every bet placed by the punter. It also charges one percent commission on winning bets (however, if you live in the UK or Ireland, you will pay slightly more at 1.15%). Because of such low commission rates, their margins are extremely low and will beat most other bookmakers – it is even better than other betting exchanges, such as Betfair.

Looking at the sports and markets, there are almost twenty to choose from. Admittedly not as many as some others, but there are the biggest sports such as football, horse racing, tennis, cricket and more. There are also a lot of betting markets available, such as worldwide football leagues, basketball conferences and more. You can choose to bet on totals, over/under, Asian Handicaps and more. There’s plenty of options for most of the betting public.

As a betting exchange, there are no wagering limits – as you aren’t plating against the house – so you can bet as much as you like. If you’re a high roller, then the top sports can see you bet in the hundreds of thousands if you wish.

If you don’t wish to bet on sports, then there are other options such as political events and entertainment events such as award shows like The Oscars.

As well as ante-play betting, you can also bet on live play markets in the major sports. The games you can access are listed on the schedule page. It offers live streaming, so you can watch the action as it happens. You can also view past games – and even popular TV shows you can bet on – like Strictly Come Dancing. It’s a very impressive service overall.

Online Casino

Considering this is a sports betting exchange, the online casino holds its own compared to many others. There are hundreds of games on offer from providers such as NetEnt, Red Tiger and more. You can choose from just under 200 slots, including old popular classics such as Starburst and Blood Suckers, to the newest games around, including Strolling Staxx and Ninja Ways. There are also jackpot games, such as the record breaking Mega Fortune and Divine Fortune.

If you are more of a table games player, then you also have plenty of options, with 17 games including a variety of blackjack tables, Combat, roulette, baccarat, Caribbean Poker, Pai Gow, Red Dog, Sic Bo, Craps, Casino Hold’em and more. However, if you are looking for great live casino experiences, then you can try out the many games available in their live dealer section – including top games from Evolution Gaming, such as Dream Catcher, Live Football Studio and Dragon Tiger, as well as 21 Live Roulette games, 17 Live Blackjack games, 7 Live Baccarat games and 5 Live Poker games.

Furthermore, there are five video poker games you can try out such as Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild and Joker Wild. All in all, it’s a very impressive online casino experience.

Matchbook Bonus: Check Out the Offer

Like most online sports betting products, Matchbook offers a welcome offer designed to attract more customers. Currently the Matchbook bonus on joining is €30 of bets. This is made up of a €15 back bet and €15 lay bet which you receive on your first deposit.

As in most promotions, there are terms and conditions attached to the offer to take into consideration. Firstly, you must make your deposit via debit card if you want to be eligible as eWallets do not qualify. You must also make the two bets to the amount of €15 as a back bet and €15 as a lay bet. These two bets also need to be from different markets. If either of the bets you make lose, then you will be refunded the amount lost into your account as bonus funds. This may take up to 48 hours. The extra money credited comes with a 5-times wagering requirement. It doesn’t really seem to be much of value as you aren’t actually getting free play – but you can have the chance to try out two separate types of betting.

It’s not just sports deals on offer, so if you want a casino bonus then look no further. Currently on joining the site, you can be awarded a Matchbook casino bonus of 100% up to €100 plus 100 wager free spins.

To qualify for this, simply press the Time to Play button by the promotion add, register, go to your account menu and get your offer, then choose the buy-in level. You will then get your 100% straight away. You will get the spins within 24 hours and they will be visible once the bonus is cleared. Be aware that your spins will be in line with your deposit – i.e. if you deposit €20, you get €20 and 20 free spins etc. You have the option of three buy-in levels – €20, €50 or €100.

Your bonus money comes with a 35-times wagering requirement, and there is a max bet of €2 applied to the bonus money. The spins will expire after 7 days, whether you have been accepted or not – and there have no wagering requirements. There are more terms attached, so read carefully on the site.

Deposit and Payout at the Betting site

The banking methods at Matchbook are reasonable, and you have options such as Skrill, Neteller and Paysafecard. This isn’t as many as many others, and it also isn’t a PayPal site, so this is a little disappointing as we prefer a little more variety – especially as you can’t claim your bonuses with the eWallet options. If this is a problem for you and you’d like to use your favourite e-wallet at a casino, you can consider the guide of the top PayPal bookmakers instead. There are various deposit limits set depending on the method of payment. The minimum deposit for most methods is €5, although it is €10 for Neteller; the maximum also depends – ranging from €20,000 with bank cards to €37,500 with Neteller. All deposits are instant.

Payment Options at Matchbook

Deposit options: Maestro, Visa Debit, Neteller, Skrill, Bank Transfer, Paysafecard
Minimum deposit : £5
Fees: None
Accepted currency: USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, HKD
Payout options: Maestro, Visa Debit, Neteller, Skrill, Bank Transfer, Paysafecard

With regards to withdrawing at Matchbook, you must note the following. Before any withdrawal is authorised, you must verify your account. You also need to withdraw funds to the same method you used to deposit. The site doesn’t stipulate withdrawal limitations, so this is likely to be in-line with your banking method.

If withdrawing via MasterCard, it is a more in-depth process. The withdrawal amount is limited to the deposited amount, so be careful with this. Also, MasterCard withdrawals are only accepted from certain countries, so check our country of residence first. If you can’t withdraw via MasterCard then you need to email support@matchbook.com to proceed.

Matchbook like to handle the withdrawals within 6 hours of receipt – and once this is done, the length of time it takes to receive your money depends on your withdrawal method – eWallets can take minutes, but bank cards can take between 3-5 days.

Security and Regulation

Matchbook is regulated by both the AGCC and the UKGC – which means that it is safe and legal to play in many different countries, including the UK and Ireland. There are prohibited countries, such as France, Canada and US, so check first. There is also an area of the site called Colossus Jackpots, which offers the following warning when going on to the area:

“You are about to gamble outside the jurisdiction of Alderney on MB Colossus products, whose gambling systems are not regulated or monitored by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC). AGCC is not obligated to act upon any complaints received regarding such gambling”

Make sure you are always covered on the site. As well as this, the site is linked with IBAS, so if there is any dispute, then your problem will be dealt with by a respectable third party agency to ensure it is completely fair. Furthermore, the products on the site are tested and confirmed for fairness by the well-respected eCOGRA. Therefore, all games have been tested for RNG and RTP, ensuring complete transparency and fair play.

In terms of privacy and safety, the data you provide will be held on secure servers. All transactions will be encrypted using SSL advanced encryption technology up to 128-bit encryption. However, email communication with the site isn’t encrypted.

Furthermore, it is linked to many responsible gambling third parties such as GamCare and GamStop, so if you are having problems controlling your gambling, you have a third party to reach out to.

Customer Support

The Matchbook Customer Support offers a variety of way to contact them. Scroll down to the bottom and you will find three separate phone numbers available – the first is for bettors living in the UK, the second is for those in the Republic of Ireland and one for outside the UK. Calls should be picked up in minutes, and you will be dealt with by their impressive and knowledgeable agents.

Another option if you require immediate assistance is the live chat, which is available for all, and you will get equally as good service. These services, however, aren’t 24-hours, but accessible between 9am – 3am, so most of the day. If your query isn’t as urgent, then you can contact them via email on support@matchbook.com – where you should receive a reply in under 24 hours. Apart from the lack of 24-hour service, we were impressed with the quality of help.

As well as this, there is a decent FAQ section which helps with general queries such opening an account, commission FAQs, account and security FAQs as well as other general queries. It does offer a lot of answers, so is worth a look.

Usability of the Online Betting Site

The layout of the website is very classic and the interface used is one of the best for betting exchanges that we have reviewed. Its functions and layout beats many of its other competitors. The most important aspect is that is it easy to use and quick. All the popular markets are on the home page, and along the side, you can access all other sports and markets as well as the live betting.

Along the top, you can access different areas of the site, such as the casino and live suite as well as the promotions, podcasts, insights and apps.

The site is very easy to navigate, with games separated into different areas such as popular, new slots, table games, jackpots and video poker. The live casino is separate and is split into game type – roulette, blackjack, baccarat, poker and others.

There is also the chance to listen to popular sporting podcasts, as well as insights, which offers services such as blogs and tips. Furthermore, the site has a search function. Overall, we were very impressed with its usability and overall experience.

Matchbook App: Many Different Games

The Matchbook app offers different choices. You can choose from iPhone or iPad, as well as Android within the UK and Android outside the UK. Downloading the app is simple, just search, click and download and you will get the app designed for your needs.

You can also play on the browser of your mobile if you don’t want to download the app – your experience will be equally as good. The Matchbook mobile product is one of the best in the industry. Firstly, it’s very easy to navigate and you can get to anything you want with just a few taps. It has a slick and easily navigable user interface and offers everything that the desktop site has to offer.

The mobile site is also very reliable and is one of the most stable platforms around. Whether you want to Back and Lay, bet In-Play or more, you have a great choice of markets – and it’s as easy on-the-go as on desktop. You can also contact customer service and manage your account with equal ease. Overall, as far as sports betting apps and claiming a mobile casino bonus go, this is one of the best available!

Conclusion: Perfect Online Betting Site with its Own Software

We were very happy with Matchbook overall. Although it may not have the liquidity to compete with Betfair with the high rollers, it’s a great alternative for the more medium size bettors – with the best commission around. There are decent sports and markets, although even more sports would be better. The usability of the desktop site and mobile site was faultless.

The banking was good, although more methods, such as PayPal, would be nice. Also, the customer service was decent, but not 24-hour. As big online casino fans, we were very impressed, especially with the vast amount of live dealer games available. This is a safe, secure, regulated site that offers a great user experience and is no Matchbook scam. As such it deserves a very creditable 4.0 out of 5.0. If you want to learn about some of Matchbook’s competitors, you can do so here.
